Another day out and this time to Kingston, which apparently used to be Canada's capital city until it lost its glory and was dropped (something like that). Kingston is a warm welcoming city full of bespoke shops of which I was not allowed to visit (oh with exception to a 'Grace Brothers' equivalent of a outdoor equipment store - absolutely full of equipment and clothes to sell, most of which were on sale. Millions of assistants between the age of 12 and 100, who did not want to sell you anything - bizarre - actually more like the shop in Royston Vasey - 'a local shop for local people).

We took a pleasant walk through the city park which was surrounded by grand buildings (most of which looked like they needed renovation or were student accommodation) moving on to the sea fronted residents with lovely wooden porches and clear views of the lake. We were seeking out the Penitentiary Prison, a tiny building giving the history of jails through the ages - sizes of cells, controlling methods and how the inmates made their weapons. Not quite Alcatraz but the kids enjoyed it.

After this riveting experience we decided it was time to eat and we joined one of Jo's friends Wendy at the local steak restaurant. We were filling time (and our faces) before we attended the evening ceremony at Fort Henry. Now this is something really worth visiting a 19th Century British Fort we watched military bands, firing demonstrations and a sunset firework display (the whole experience would be even better if you had just seen "last of the Mohican's" to really understand what it would have been like living in a fort at this time).
