We bought some souvenirs at Lake Moraine to remind us of these amazing freaks of nature and I was determined to find a souvenir of Lake Louise for my sister of the same name but alas we found nothing appropriate to send her – sorry Lou.
The following day was a lazy day spent walking around Banff shopping and onto the Bow Falls at one end of the town and on up to another amazing hotel called the Fairmount for afternoon tea. The shopping was interrupted by a visit to a photographer’s shop which caught our eye – the whole family were invited to dress up as old time cowboys and girls and to be photographed in a variety of poses in a western saloon style set all captured on sepia film to produce a realistic Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid style scene – yeehahhh!
The evening was finished off treating ourselves to a good old western style steak 'n ribs meal in a local restaurant .We went to a similar style restaurant in Jasper called Earl’s which this latter one was not a patch on but the disappointment of the food itself was made up for by meeting a lovely old man from Nova Scotia called Charlie who was sitting on his own next to us. He told us about how he was just finishing a week’s trip riding out in the wilderness to celebrate his 80th birthday! I hope I’m that daring when I’m his age. What a man – he came and joined our table and the waitresses overheard our conversation and presented him with a birthday cake to celebrate. He told us that he was one of 13 children brought up in Nova Scotia and that all of his surviving siblings bar one lived there still so Fynn asked him if we could go and visit them and maybe play some games – the fact that they were all grandparents went over Fynn’s little head!!
