After being rudely awoken by very inconsiderate dorm mates who think that its acceptable to turn the light on at 6am, I decided to get up anyway to get some pictures of the sunrise. I decided it would be a nice way to start my 25th year. I made it back to Auckland in time for the lovely dinner Liz had prepared, pork and Yorkshire puds, yummy! And so it was time for me to get stuck into the job hunt. I was only looking for a bit of temping, but unfortunately the recession had other plans. Not that the recession has really hit New Zealand, its just that everyone has heard of it and so decided to panic and put a stop to things like recruitment. Its a bit concerning when you are told by recruitment agencies, that they are not recruiting. I did go to one job interview in particular, but found the job was for door to door sales and based entirely on commission. Not worth it! In the end, I decided that it just wasn't worth working when I wanted to leave in a month anyway, and so I went down to the travel agents to book my onward tickets.

And so I decided to head down to Christchurch whilst waiting for my visa applications to come through. But I just had time for a Christmas dinner at Easter. Apparently its a traditional ex-pat thing to have a Christmas dinner in the Southern Hemisphere's Winter when its colder, as Xmas in the Summer just isn't the same. I certainly wasn't complaining, especially as I had missed Christmas this year by being in Japan. We went out to a beach on the West Coast for an afternoon trip. the sand was distinctly black. We had intended on going sandboarding down the black dunes, but it didn't really work, so we ended up on a big grass bank near the car park. We weren't short of an audience, especially not when the boys took the board higher and higher, jumping off the ledges. It was definitely a fun day.
