After heading back to Suva to pick up our visas, we headed to Bounty Island, our home for our last few days in Fiji. It part of the Mamanuca group of islands and it is tiny! It is also the place where ITV filmed Celebrity Love Island! There is only one resort on the Island, and its called Bounty Island Resort. Its a really lovely place, kind of crossed between the last two places we stayed at (Octopus Resort and David's Place) and it weird experience staying on such a small island!
We arrived there late and by the time we had settled, it was dark so we didn't get to se to much of the island but our room was right on the beach! The staff seemed really friendly though, and the sang us some songs that night after dinner which was nice (it seems like every Fijian is born with an amazingly powerful singing voice!)
The next day was my birthday! Yay! And it was a surreal experience waking up and looking out on to the sea. I had a leisurely breakfast before setting off for a walk around the edge of the Island which only took 20 minutes! (the Island really is tiny!!) On the way round we saw the remains of the Celebrity Love Island set, I never really watched it but it was interesting to see, even though it was sitting in a state of disrepair.
We also had our first taste of kayaking over the coral reefs, it was amazing as the water was really still and clear and you could see all the multicoloured fish swimming around underneath you. We also caught a glimpse of a sting-ray as it darted away from us!
In the afternoon, I just lazed in a hammock on the beach, which is not a bad way to spend a birthday, before heading out for a quick snorkel. The coral was pretty amazing and there were loads of colourful fish.
That evening, I had a nice meal and a few Fijian cocktails while watching sun go down (its a hard life, i know). After dinner, the staff sang some songs again, but this time when they finished, they all came down to my table with a huge cake and sang happy birthday to me! It was a really cool way to end the day.
That brings me to yesterday (our last full day on the Bounty Island). We did some more kayaking in the morning and some snorkeling in the afternoon before we spotted some jellyfish floating around in the water and decided that we didn't like the thought of getting stung.
We left the island this morning and had trip around the Mamanuca group before heading to the airport for our flight back to New Zealand. After this flight, we spend one night in Auckland before flying to Sydney and then on to Bangkok.
I'm already looking forward to the first taste of Asia on this trip!
