 Day 170 Duncan - Oklahoma - Amarillo - Texas
We left Duncan after a very chilly night! Even some frost on the timber when we had breakfast. Someone in the party is NOT happy.
We travelled through to Fort Sill in about half an hour. As can be seen with the comment above, from the Fort Information Media Officer, (we appreciate the comment - Thankyou Nancy)
We were admitted into the Active military Instillation; with the correct identity checks as Nancy commented above.
Certainly we appreciate the comments because it has saved us a lot of "report time" to set out the information we gathered during the informative movie and our wander through the Stone buildings built by the Buffalo Soldiers.
Yes, there is misinformation about Geronimo, and he apparently only spent about 6 days in the "Cooler" for infractions, but so did any other soldiers or people held in or around the Fort that "crossed the line"
We enjoyed the museum and the displays as well as the walk around the parade ground to the various buildings. There are a lot of weapons on display around the area, including old WW1/WW11 weaponry; also the history and the continued training of the Artillery.
We travelled to the Apache grave sites and walked through that as well; another step in our learning journey about the development and growth of this Country.
We headed out from there to track our way to the Palo Duro Canyon in Texas.
Yes we are heading into the Big State of Texas! How great is this Journey?
We stopped off at a Wal Mart for lunch in a town called Altus, we took the opportunity to purchase some Warmer shirts, back on the road again heading to Texas.
We crossed the border and into the Lone Star State, We revised our destination from heading directly into the Canyon Park to stop off at the KOA in Amarillo. We have had a few things pointed out to us to do while here including a visit to the halfway point in route 66.
So we guess we have to cover that part of the USA trip by doing the right thing and visiting that site of the midway point of the famous route.
It definitely has turned a little cooler here and we guess it is time to be thankful for all the great weather we have enjoyed along the journey, BUT, to have a sign at the check in counter of the KOA advising us to "Take our hose in for the night, because of freeze conditions" OUCH! Oh well the Castle has a great heating system, and woolly sleeping gear might be the order.

IT'S COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting the whole trip for this. I was expected that Mum would run into snow alot earlier (I thought that Alaska or Canada was a good bet) and I've watched carefully as the red line edged closer toward Colorado and Utah and the dates rolled closer December. You've still got to get over those hills to get back to LA!!!!

Another bonus for me is that if Mum gets caught in the snow there will be less baggage for me and Em to pick up at the airport. I think Mum made it very clear what would happen to Rick if she was caught in the snow. He probably wont be found until the snow thaws out and she's safely back home.

Good Luck.

Your loving and caring son - Danial

Re: IT'S COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brave move Dan, considering they will be home soon. You know the first thing mum will do when she sees you is give Emily a hug and slap you over the head for being cheeky.

Mum it is time to embrace the snow, snow is your friend.

Love Sarah
