Day 156 Crystal Waters - Panama City Beach Florida
We were not in a rush to set off this morning, we had a relaxed beginning to the day and set sail at around 9:45am.
We set our first target destination to a place called Perry, the route was a two lane highway with no challenges for the seasoned travellers. We did find a Bank of America on our route that was able to deposit a cheque as well as parking space for us to enjoy morning tea,(as opposed to a Wal Mart ) with rest rooms available.
We set off again to run into some heavy rain that thankfully didn't last very long, before long we were looking for a place for lunch. This was achieved in a small place called Meriden, at a rest/recreation area that had sports facilities as well as a car park with shade and restrooms.
We reset our sights (and Mandy) to take us along the coastal route, to Panama City Beach, At last we had a run along the beach areas, with a view of the water, still some houses built right on the beach side, but plenty of views of the gulf of Mexico water. A fair section of the beach was being worked on with rock walls and back fill happening, (right beside the road) our guess it appears to be damage from the recent hurricane.
We crossed some more big bridges to arrive at an RV park advertised 300yards from the beach, and yes it is!! YEE HAAA at last access to a beach.
We hooked up and had a drink then headed over with our swimmers on, to check it out.
Yes we had a walk way to the beach and yes it was white sand, and yes the water was warm.
We all had a paddle, Karon chose to come up close and personal with a crab, while she was standing ankle deep in the water, a crab decided to bite her on the big toe. She certainly can jump high from a standing start!!
Never mind, she was still brave enough to have a swim, even if it meant floating on her back with her feet off the sand.
We all enjoyed the dip in the Gulf of Mexico, and have photos to prove it happened.
We decided (on the recommendation of the guy that checked us into the park) to try Captain Andersons Seafood restaurant, (it apparently has been voted no 1 seafood restaurant in America for the last 18years)
We showered and then booked a cab to take us to the restaurant; we arrived to find we had an hour wait to be ushered to a table. Gee didn't think to reserve a slot!
We waited and were served by a typical southern speaking young lady called Staci, the food was really great and the experience was simply topped off just listening to Staci talk. It was a treat!
The weather is great and not as humid as we have thus far experienced, and certainly not as hot.
Not a bad part of the world to have a vacation, we have cable TV, and internet, and the facilities right behind our Castle. Not a bad choice of a place to stop.
