Day 128 Clarksboro New Jersey to Gettysburg Pennsylvania
We left the RV park and programmed our friend to take us an off route to Gettysburg that was a great choice.
We travelled again, some nice country roads without a lot of pressure of traffic and with some nice country type villages. The morning took us through a lot of Amish (pronounced AHHmish) country or a lot of Dutch influenced areas, and dairy farms, wonderful farming country.
We pulled over next to a PO to post some post cards to the Grandkids, and asked about a visit to an Amish village. We found a place just 1 mile away.
We spent about 1.5 hours doing a tour and learning about this particular life choice. Also a small farm set up similar to the way they choose to live was part of the tour. Some wonderful products and skilled handicraft odds and ends
We had lunch and then headed onward to Gettysburg, the completion the last part of today's travel.
We arrived at the Gettysburg information centre to obtain the information about tours and the museum. We took in a movie that outlined in 20 mins the background of the civil war that eventually led to the deaths of around 620,000 soldiers, and ripped at the nations heart. The movie also gave the background to the battle at Gettysburg a significant battle and claimed by some as the turning point in the war. The war continued for another 2 years after this battle, leaving the country with a task to rebuild and understand the challenges of being United States of America.
We plan to head back in the morning and hire a guide, the guide will take us in our own vehicle to the various battle ground sites and give us a personal tour, this works out a better option for us and is also cheaper than a bus tour.
We have discovered at a place called Hershey, about an hour north of here, has an RV & camping show, we guess that we visit the Sydney show each year and we have seen a lot of RV's, Oh gee, we are travelling in one called the Castle! So we plan to head that way after the tour to most likely drool and pretend we are able to take advantage of the cheaper deals here.
We are not sure where we will be tomorrow night, but hopefully we will be able to update you tomorrow night.
