Day 120 Mystic Connecticut - Plattekill New York State
A well deserved "later sleep" and we arose about at about 8:30am, a leisurely breakfast and direct ourselves towards New York city. Attempting to book into the nearest RV park (New Jersey) but to no avail, it was fully booked.
We drove along the 95 at a relaxed pace with no challenges for the intrepid travellers.
We chose to stop at place called Jimmys at West Haven in Connecticut, for lunch a wonderful place by the sea with sand on the beach( replaced after every winter because of the storms) and the water was in fact warm.
We had a relaxed lunch and spoke to a local, with a great knowledge about the area including the restaurant we ate in. (yes we took the plunge and ate in a restaurant)
Apparently "Jimmys" started out as a small hot dog stand way back within the precincts of an amusement park, with a wonderful roller coaster that even travelled over the water Are we Really in Grand Central Station NYC

. (if you ever get to Jimmys they have murals on the wall inside depicting the amusement park). The amusement park was destroyed by a hurricane that hit the area at a point in time. ( cannot recall the year)
We enjoyed the meal and again the servings are a little large for the travellers.
A very relaxed meal and a wonderful discussion with the local information. Thankyou to the local for the information and your time. ( time being a commodity we tend to squander, and if shared appreciated)
We then decided the time was a challenge to head into NY city (coupled with local advice about not being a really RV friendly city). The chosen spot was to head the KOA at Newburgh New York State. This place is around 1.5 hours north of New York City.
The Drive was a pleasant drive through tree lined roads and over some water ways and small villages with nice houses. We crossed the Hudson river and viewed some large houses fronting the river.
The new experience in the driving diary today would be the school bus!
We came up behind a school bus on the narrow road that puts on hazard lights as it stops to let down the children.
BOTH traffic flows stop for the school bus, behind as well as coming toward us, the stops were at times only 15 metres apart, with the parents waiting to pick the little people up, even to the point of climbing up into the bus and getting the child from the seat Who is happy to be in New York City

.
It definitely slows the traffic flow, at least the little people are safe.
The bus turned off and we managed to find our way to the KAO (after a side trip into an interesting housing estate and a u-turn).
We have managed to sort ourselves out to park the Castle for a few days at $5 per day, get "bob's Taxi" to the station and a train into the city.
We admire Karon's patience to book us into a hotel in New Jersey (within Subway transport or shuttle bus to Manhattan). It took her at least 4 phone calls and a considerable amount of time convincing the person to slow down and explain why we could not use the discount voucher.
Her tenacity (gee those that know our girl know what we mean) succeeded in obtaining accommodation in NJ for the next three nights, to allow us to explore the Big Apple.
We should still have WIFI so should be in contact, if not do not fear we will be enjoying ourselves.
We have a birthday this weekend here and Rick is about to be able to claim a seniors pass in some places, how cool is that? Of course Rick being Rick suggests he is only 50% of the way through his turn in being here, only time will answer that question.
Next report will either be from the Big Apple or after the big Apple.
Yep we are still here and still learning whatever life's journey throws at us.
