Day 111 Canaan Maine USA - Eastport Maine.
Well with the information received from the Maine information centre yesterday, we chose to head for Calais, the Eastern town with high dramatic tides on the East Coast of the USA, before we made the 2 hour drive we had to firstly take care of some Food fill ups for the fridge and the Pantry as well as have some printing stuff fixed.
Wow! found the Super Wal Mart, and yes we were able to top up with all the real food things without the extra tax costs nor the Canadian dollar exchange rate.
We also filled with Gas, and gee it was a lot cheaper than "up north" then set our sights for Calais. It took a while because we had to have documents printed off a flash disc, this created a challenge for the local Staples (remember them they are our Office works equivalent) it gave Karon more than an hour to spend time in the nearby Marshals store.
All the documentations printed and a meeting of all the travellers, resulted in Karon dragging the boys back into Marshalls to ensure they took advantage of the "Clearance sale racks" of swimwear and other items, (eg: shorts and jeans at less than half Aussie prices)
Oh well the pain over, we set sail for Calais, a drive through small villages and narrow roads of Maine, but we found our way to Calais (established 1604) but again Mandy and the driver had a debate, we followed Mandy, and ended up in a place called Eastport (not registered in Mandy as 2 words just one) this is right by the water, with the interesting experience of being able to observe 18 ft tide fluctuations. YES it happens and we walked to the foreshore and watched the tide push up the beach at about 3 inches per minute (vertical of about 1 inch per minute) the wind was a little cold, hopefully it will tell the trees to change the leaf colour so we can experience the wonderful world renowned fall colours of New England, where the colours are more distinct and more vibrant than anywhere else in the world.
Rick and Karon had a meal in the RV park restaurant, Rick had a Maine Lobster, it was something that that one dreams about, and YES! It lives up to the dream, just eating everything and leaving the tail for tomorrow was a wonderful experience and the lobster was a cross between crab and lobster, truly wonderful. Who requires a birthday present after this experience.
A note here, the owner of the RV park was present and we had a chat, as well as with his cook, from Fort Lauderdale in Florida, he went to school in Massachusetts with a Fred De Luca (The owner of Subway some of have had dealings with). INTERESTING!
We swapped email addresses with the owner Basil and invited him to Sydney. All in all, a great experience.
See you out there; obviously we have had a couple of days off from the internet.
