Day 96 Milwaukee

Well we headed into town from our overnight stay in the Two Rivers mariner, to take in the tour of the Finger.

We filled with gas and headed north, the small town of rivers was hardly awake even at 9:30am.

We were expecting to get some views of Lake Michigan, but we all know what happens when we set "Expectations". The road tracked through some small farmlands and quaint villages, but no Lake views, by the time we were due for morning break, we chose to take a right hand turn and knew we would run into the lake at some point.

We did at a small boat ramp (with restricted access) no rest areas and no facilities, but at least we could walk to the water and paddle.

We set off again and decided that the small farmlets and views we were experiencing were the same as we had before only on a smaller scale! EG: cornfields and small farms.

We chose to continue on the narrow road, even though it indicated it was narrow and winding, hey we have done worse roads than this and they were unsealed!.

The road was narrow and it WAS winding, and would you believe it, it ran alongside the lake but we had no views, there is one line of houses along this route that has Lake Frontage for the back yard, but from the road we were unable to view it at all. A nice place to have but definitely not if you own the "other side of the Road!"

We managed to negotiate our way back to the highway and set our sails for Milwaukee, no big deal a good run, apart from some extremely bad highways with shocking corrugations in the road top, nope it wasn't gravel, it was concrete, but you would swear we were on an endless sheet of corrugated iron. Never mind we survived, with teeth still in place! Just!

We programmed Mandy to take us to an RV park, we are still unsure as to what Mandy was considering, we travelled into what could be described as a VERY interesting section of town, we did not see more than maybe 4 or 5 non coloured or non African American faces in the area we were travelling around.

Trusting Mandy at this stage took us to a street in a housing area that had NO RV Park (maybe we were thankful for that?)

Ok reset our good friend Mandy again< yep you guessed it! No change in the culture and the next place also had no RV park!

Oh dear, find a convenient place to pull over and pull out our books, reprogram for the "State Fair RV Park" Mind you Rick had "read somewhere" that the State park was due to finish this week. Maybe today? Here's hoping!

Well this took us into some horrendous traffic snarls, and past the famous Miller Park, a baseball stadium, the venue of the famous sausage race, but oh well, just keep going we can do it! A game had just finished and this also added to the confusion to the traffic nightmare.

We found the RV park and turned in, ok by this stage we were at a point of "Just give us somewhere to stay!"

We head in and find out, yes the State Fair finished yesterday, but they have some sites, the receptionist had worked until midnight the night before and was tired but pleasant. We found our site, hooked up and sort of agreed that Milwaukee has not a lot to attract tourists from our first impression this far.

Relax, eat and watch a few episodes of 2 ½ men, always a great laugh and a wind down for whatever the day threw at us.

Plans for tomorrow; Drive into Milwaukee city centre and then head south to Illinois and Chicago.
