Day 71 Jasper Alberta Canada
We had a bit of a sleep in (8am yeah right!) and then headed to Jasper. We had a wander around this tourist town, browsing the shops.
Then headed off to get a tram (cable car/gondola)ride to the top of whistler mountain overlooking the Jasper area and the area surrounding.
This trip up the mountain did not eventuate, the cable ride was shut down because of the weather, the electricity in the air was too dangerous for it to operate.
We chose to head away to check out the other sites in the area, we visited the Maligne Falls, a wonderful experience of watching the forces of nature clash and the effects of water over the limestone cutting through the weaker fissures to create a canyon very narrow at the top with twists and turns taking the easier route through the weaker limestone pathway
From there we headed off to view the Athabasca Falls, these are a WOW! Vision of a huge amount of a river flow from the glacier feed mountains, to be caught at a lip of hard rock but it had cut a narrow track through this rock, the force of the water dropping through this area and to follow through to open out to fill a wide river bed.
We also had the pleasure of observing a black bear further down the river wander through the woods and then amble to the water and take a quiet sit and rest in the river.
From here we headed back to our Park but stopped off on the way to have a swim in some hot pools. The road up was a little tight, but the soak in the hot pools was worth the drive.
Home we head after our 45-60 min soak and head in to Hinton to fuel up, the idea of a meal at a restaurant was abandoned simply because the food on offer at the first two did NOT appeal to any of us, better to head home and do a steak on the barby and some salads.
The day was full with the sightseeing and absorbing the views of the Rockies, again it is not possible to describe them in enough detail to transfer the images, add the fact that the different lights and the clouds as well as the brief rain showers, gives a constant but ever changing vision we would never get tired of watching.
The wildlife observed during the day continues to give us pleasure to know and see nature living alongside man, today we had bears, deer crossing the road as well as grazing within about 3 metres of the Castle in a car park, Goats, big horned sheep and a large group of Elk down on a river, we still get a thrill to see them all, as we continue our journey
Attempting to book ahead is also becoming a challenge as well, the communication system continues to give us some interesting times.
The added challenge is with the summer holidays happening and the popularity of the National parks is adding to the fun we are enjoying, never fear we will certainly find places to accommodate our Castle as we continue our travels.
