Day 51 Alaska - Valdez
Who can believe it our holiday/ trip/ journey is into the 51st day of 201 days, gee ¼ of the way through.
We guess if we look at the map of our travels thus far, we have done the 1St leg of the trip, up the West Coast of USA, so that makes a little sense with 3 legs to go and incursions into the middle of the square.
We are sitting in an RV park called Eagles Rest in the Famed town of Valdez, (made headlines when the oil tanker Exxon-Valdez went aground in 1989)
The trip in was a comfortable one with the shared driving making it easier for us. Again we begin to question Mandy or is it Karon and her directions to Mandy, We took a turn left at a point about 7 miles from our destination and ended up in a secure restricted area where the Alaskan oil Pipeline terminates. Gee just as well we practiced those U turns.
Not a big deal and we all do have a sense of humour, we found the town and this wonderful RV park.
First on Rick's list was booking a fishing charter trip to go catch a Halibut. Of course he requires a licence and had to enter a fishing contest that runs for the season with a $15,000 prize for the biggest fish. (They will have to advise any further entrants after tomorrow that I have won, Surely the Grand daddy of Halibut has been waiting all these years for me to arrive?)
Earnie inquired about a white water rafting trip and this left Karon a girl alone day (I guess she might argue she deserves it after 51 days of "Caring for the aged and at times senile fellas"
We paid our fees for the park ( we are here for 2 nights to fit the fishing trip in)  and were informed about a fish bake for dinner tonight.
Of course we had to ask for clarification as to what that meant! And it is a pot luck meal, take along a dish, your plates and cutlery and drinks and they supply the fresh cooked Salmon off the barby.
Gee are we fortunate or not?
We quickly went to the supermarket and bought the essentials for the next couple of days and a couple of readymade salads to share and off we trot.
Well Rick forgot the camera and is a little annoyed. Talk about a "Shop" as in "workshop" where they held this fish bake, Earnie looked around and decided he was a little envious of this workshop.
It is huge with space for a lot of tables and workbenches and lighting that would suit an operating theatre, as well as a loft with gear stacked up there.
Never mind, the all you can eat salmon fish bake certainly was well received by us and all the other happy campers.
We were a little late in arriving but gee that again was worth it, as we were leaving we were offered some raw fish to take with us, so we ended up with a couple of feeds of fresh salmon in our freezer. (Yes Marian we have saved some for you).
The amount of salmon we have in the freezer would be at least $30 at home, with the free  feed  and the total cost for the park for 2 days of $60, we figure we are doing ok. Aint life Grand? Yet we reckon we deserve it, you would have to agree.
Since dinner we have managed to settle in and catch up with the emails and a couple of phone calls.
Earnie read about his rafting trip and has now cancelled the one the woman was attempting to book for him, "It sounded like an old ladies trip, I want to work my passage" was his comment.
There will certainly be other choices we are sure, maybe he better go have his legs waxed or fingernails done with Karon instead, because Rick is going fishing!
All is well here and thank you for the messages we should be able to keep in contact now for the next week or so, the RV parks in these bigger towns have a better WIFI system I believe.
