We left the Park at around 9am, We had last night asked Mandy how long to drive to Anchorage from our present position, The calculation was 77 hours, so we sorta, kinda, guessed it is time to begin the drive north, because simple maths tells us with 5 hours driving per day that is around 15 days, without any major holdups.
The road our was another experience of tight turns and closed in with huge redwoods, beautiful colours and nature provides an amazing number shades of green through this area, just a wonderful thing to be exposed too as well as absorb.
I am sure the seat where Karon sits will have to have some fingernail holes fixed when the time comes to sell The Castle, the road (highway 1) certainly has some tight turn taking us down to 10 mph in places and not on one occasion
We came to a place that was sign posted for a picnic area so cut off to have morning tea, Rick was a little hesitant to drive straight in because he spotted a sign suggesting a 12ft height, (He has the measurements of the Castle firmly imbedded in his brain, IE: 12'5''ht, 6'9'' wide, 30' long)
We noticed a bus park a little further in the grove and Rick went and asked the driver if there was a turnaround for RV/Buses Because he had figured the bus was higher than us so it must be ok, further in?
The drivers answer nearly floored Rick! "I don't know I just drive the bus, and the tour guide will tell me"
I guess a driver is a driver and goes where he is directed? Well rick walked a little further and found it was ok, so we drove in and turned around and back to the restrooms, and we boiled the kettle and enjoyed the ambiance of the trees, they were huge. Hopefully the photos will come out and give the size, Rick standing beside a fallen log with his arm up and still dwarfed by the height of this mammoth lying on its side.
Spotted a few elk in a park just off the road as we were driving, just to keep up the "Deer spotting" game, that for some reason wish to follow us along
We continued on to a town called, Eureka, here we wandered around the historic town with some original buildings and had lunch, We did the boardwalk alongside the river/sea and we can attest that the wind did not stop, nor has it become warmer over night!
We left there and headed for our present location at Crescent City, The last city before we leave California, A beautiful RV park with their own little redwood forest, We are spoilt!( deservedly so J )
We had the wonderful news from Donah about the new addition, Well done Jodee & Andrew, we are so happy for you and look forward to the pics, Congratulations!
We have done well with new additions this month, J
We then managed to make contact with the world in Australia, with the aid of Skype and the video link we talked to Nicole, Kerrie, & Emily at work in Narellan Playmaze, (Maybe someone should let them know about "Child labour laws" I reckon Emily may be slightly underage yet she was dressed in the "pink uniform" we observed the managers dressed in.
It was a great link and we managed to show them a picture of our RV park through the window of the castle.
Well next state is on the horizon, So Oregon here we come! "Are you ready for us?"
