Day 28 - Reno - Nevada
A long straight road with very few rises and falls but through a lot of farming (cattle country) and from out of nowhere some sort of manufacturing plant would pop up. We have no idea what they are processing nor where the workers travel from to work in these plants, but I guess there is a purpose.
Also the road had signs prohibiting hitchhiking. With the explanation that it was a prison area, and no stopping, unless an emergency.
We arrived at the KOA park near a casino called Boomtown an outlying suburb of Reno.
Not the "usual standard" KOA park but we are only here for a night so, it is what it is.
We had a buffet lunch in the casino, we were informed if we "joined a free membership club" we received a 2 for 1 deal at the buffet
Gee a night off cooking dinner as well cause anyone can do "Tomatoes on Toast"
We wound up the Castle and went grocery shopping, The supermarket we arrived at did NOT impress "master shopper Rick" I reckon the Aussies would agree when you learn the price of a Rack of Lamb costing $40 for a rack of 8 chops, so we bought the bare essentials to do us until we re-enter California, This state we have found to have a better selection and better prices than we have experienced elsewhere.
From here we drove to "Downtown Reno" we took a few diversions through some of the housing areas and then weaved in and out of what appears to be the main centre.
As the Lonely Planet book suggests, it is attempting to "Be a mini Vegas" and not doing a great job. A little umm "tacky" with cheap looking motels and a few casinos. We travelled along the park of the banks of the Truckie river and observed a kayak white water course, but not much else.
Apparently there is a homeless tent city sprung up in or around the Train lines or track somewhere in Reno, We didn't observe this in our tour, but filled with "gas" and headed home.
We came home and hooked the Castle up to the utilities and relaxed.
Our plan tomorrow is to travel to Lake Tahoe to most likely stay the night near or next to this famous American Landmark. (MMM maybe that should be "watermark")
Till we meet again, Regards from the travellers.
