Day 22 - Arizona - Utah
After the very cold night we were a little slow getting going and we had decided to head into Utah and tackle the Brice canyon.
Earnie offered to drive to Page (around 80 miles) so Rick took co- pilots seat and Karon sat back and did some Sudoko.
The road took us back through the Grand Canyon National park towards Cameron. A few climbs and some good views along the rim of the canyon, and some tight roads but overall not to bad. The road took us through a portion of the Navajo reservation, gee a reminder of the moonscape in part and quite desolate, with small scatters of a few small settlements. A little wonder the Native American has had difficulty adaptating and struggles.
We came into Page, and first stop was a Wal-mart to restock the pantry, as well buying some WARM bed gear, such as DOONAS (in Australian terms) Yes we are woos bags but hey we are here, you guys ain't Blah!
We also bought an outdoor mat we decided was a great idea to prevent the stones and dirt entering the Castle, We put it outside and tried, YEP you guessed it NO one took responsibility of putting it in the Castle and we drove away leaving in the car park, Both Earnie and Rick are pleased it only cost $4.50, We feel we can live with that loss!
Lunch in the car park again the castle generator is kicked to supply the cuppa.
Off we go and divert and have a drive through Page and fill with gas, then down to cross the Colorado river at the Glen Canyon Dam. We chose to pull over and do a tour and look at Lake Powell from the heights of the dam. We had a wonderful young guide called Megan and we all agreed she did a great job of explain everything to us. (The bonus here was it was a FREE tour) A point to note here is we had to leave behind any bags including camera bags, Fanny bags (bum bags Oz terms) as well as through a security screen entering the building, also notes told by the guide not talk of bombs, guns, or terrorists (maybe than bans Emily?) even by way of a joke because security frown on this and take it seriously.
Off we go on highway 89 and cross into UTAH. Another state we have reached already along our journey.
The change of scenery was evident and the road was long and straight, good travelling. The visions came and went as we passed through some massive areas that a lot of old western movies were shot in, we could almost hear the whoops of the Indians or the rattle of the stagecoach as we drove along.
The scenery changed again and we entered a long valley which has taken us to our present stop at an RV park called KOA Glendale. Close to Brice Canyon.
So we settle in have roast turkey leg and vegies for dinner and a warm bed (hopefully because it is cold out side!

using your parents wisdom
Every child needs to get their parent back at some point. Whens my turn :) Glad to see you enjoyed the Grand Canyon so much that it was posted twice. Oh well, Rick likes to tell stories over and over again. Make use of the pass and go on a bush walk, or a hike (is that what they call it in the states).
Missing you all
Love Sarah and the boys
Thank you Sarah,Re: using your parents wisdom
Thanks Sarah for pointing that out, I guess the days overlapped a little. I have now edited and corrected the 2nd entry. I hope it makes more sense. I am hopeing to catch with some photos today hopefully. The connections have been a little less than good, but today we have a good connection at the park we are at.
