Day 17 - 24th May 2008.
With the advent of the introduced DVD technology we watched a movie, (Count on me) we enjoyed the movie and had a sleep.
Woke up to a fine warm ay in Yuma. Breakfast at a leisurely ac and then pack up to visit the historic Yuma Territorial Prison.
I guess we all decided that being good girls and boys is much better than being locked up in a place like this.
One would have to ask why the heck is Yuma here originally.
It appears so far from anywhere. Yet it was originally the confluence of the Gila and Colorado rivers and this was the crossing by ferry for the rivers. The original inhabitants (Native American Indians) used to farm or grow crops on the flood plains.
Also houses a large US air force base nearby, including a "parachute Testing Ground" leaves a lot to the imagination of how they choose the failures or successful parachutes.. I believe none of us are going to volunteer to be "test Dummies" mmmm Thinking about it maybe they chose this area to use the test jumpers from the prison? Anything is possible in America.
We again used the generator to make our morning tea (gee the marvels of a moving castle) and then Earnie took the wheel and away we went, (not sure about the first 500 metres we ended up doing a U turn and revisiting a section. (of course the Navigator was to blame!!)
I am amazed at the wonderful technology and am writing this while travelling and we are connected to the internet at the same time. We are heading East on highway 8 towards Phoenix and have chosen an area called Apache Junction to find and RV park. Mind you the choice is huge.
Catch you on the road out there.
Well we made it to the RV park on tomahawk Rd in Apache Junction near Phoenix.
The pics taken on the way may give you some idea of the arid land that Arizona.
The mountains are just like in the movies and we are heading into Phoenix to have a look at the city tomorrow and then hope to do a road trip on the Apache trails which take in a couple of lakes and scenic stuff.
Will update as usual when we have completed some of the fun stuff.
NEWS FLASH!! We managed to get the set top box and satellite dish working (maybe Rick takes over as the TV IT guy) but we can now know it all works.

RV KOA Park Apache Junction Arizona
The landscape has changed somewhat from the influence of the white settlers, the "taming" of the Colorado has shifted the confluence away from this area and the irrigation channels to feed the crop areas shows anything can grow with the heat and water. Also houses a large US air force base nearby, including a "parachute Testing Ground" leaves a lot to the imagination of how they choose the failures or successful parachutes..
