Day 12 - 18th May 2008.
Well it was time to move the Castle from the first RV campground.
We decided to take a trip down to see the Queen Mary and maybe tour the Santa Monica & Venice beach areas again. (Just cause we can). At the same time we chose to leave a message with an RV park near Universal Studios this was to allow us to have a close and early start to get into Universal Studios.
Well the first part worked extremely well, We found our way to the Queen Mary Via Mandy/Tom gps, and it was another great experience.
I also say here that Earnie certainly knows his stuff and came alive with knowledge about the engines and electrical stuff and knowledge.
I also have to say here that I reckon that Earnie is doing a lot better and is looking better than the Queen Mary both were born in the same year, (1936) and she has been retired since 1967 but Our Earnie is still going. As you will read later in our "interesting RV day!"
From there the day had a switch into the Day in an RV in America. ( I did forget to tell you yesterday, after setting up our TV and sat dish we spent the evening watching the DVD "RV" that starred Robin Williams.)
Now I am not sure if it is because we watched that movie that the RV devils or everyones friend Murphy, came to visit.
We received a phone call while touring the "Queen" that the park we wanted was full, so we listed the nearest via the computer and proceeded to call them.
We managed to obtain a live person by the third call and booked a spot for two nights. GREAT!
Then off we roll the Castle to Santa Monica.
Yeah sure we gave Mandy the wrong address, again she took us to where we told her, BUT gee the roads ran out, no parking for the castle and narrow streets. HOW EXCITING!!
We transferred ourselves out of that area with out losing our "cool" (well to badly) and found a road side to park to retell Mandy another place.
AGAIN she took us there BUT they had decided to do road works and diverted us nicely in a circle and back along narrow roads completely parked out (I mean who else but three Aussie Travellers would attempt to go to the most popular beaches in LA on a sweltering Sunday?)
So enough is enough lets us reset Mandy to take us to our NEW home.
Away we go and gee the traffic was only 7 lanes all going the same way and it went on and on, we were starting to believe the next stop was San Fran.
I will not bore you with the various comments etc but to say the least we were getting a little stretched and "Gee Earnie hadn't packed the wonderful signs "Fireman Earnie" had made for such occasions. So we "made do" by being polite!! J
We found the new RV park. It has a LOT of RV's.
Well we set up and the team is starting to work well in setting up.
Turn on the air conditioner and head to the pool. Things are settling down and we have showers and begin cooking dinner.
GEE then the RV Murphy strikes. The power went down.
Oh dear, but we have our resident Sparky, (Earnie) he breaks out his newly acquired tool kit. But not complete of course.
The long and short it all, a change of plug from a friendly RV'er because the plug looked suspect.
But no go.
Then search for the auto overload switches, but nope, no where to be found, We checked inside cupboards behind seats, and even read the book, but nope it must have been the supply tower.
So we reported it and moved the RV to the next site.( I must remind you that this excersise is interesting in itself. Put up the awning, unhook the water/power/and waste pipes, back out the 30' castle and drive into the next site. Plug in and yep you guessed it NO POWER!.
By this time the lights that run on battery are getting lower and the torch that Rick "Added from the RV stock" was getting way past it's best.
So oh dear let us read the book again and research this huge castle. Yee haa we found "the alternate place" such an "obvious place" in the main bedroom under the bed!
The Sparky threw the switch and "he let there be LIGHT"
We were up and running again.
This took only about 2 hours.
Gee at least Rick didn't get beaten at cards tonight, we just went to bed, We had a big day planned to drive BACK into LA to Universal Studios which is "apparently" only 32 miles away. We were not to sure of this because we felt we had travelled a long way.
Gee No photo's Sorry guys but the camera person just was a little busy.
Sleep was good!
