This is an entry about an incident that occurred in the first week of our trip.It made us reassess the whole trip. Luckily we look back on it now and realise that things could have been a whole lot worse...
As we booked in at Camooweal for an o'nite stop over, we saw our first stationary road train. By chance it even had "Road trains of Australia" written on the side!
We set off from Camooweal Roadhouse at around 7am. It was exciting to stop at the QLD/NT border, taking photos standing in the middle of the road. We felt pretty safe as the odd road train hurtles past every 20mins or so.
The Navara's turbo works better in the mornings, so we were whistling along and in great spirits. It was around 8.30am when things changed for the worst. A pretty large roo (we think around 6') came out of no-where and in 3 bounds had taken out the front corner of our van.
We thought we'd gotten off pretty lightly until we stopped for fuel at the Barkley Homestead Roadhouse and discovered the damage. A call to the insurance company with their assurance that we could have it repaired when we returned home gave us renewed confidence, so we patched up the damage as best we could and continued on.
