We've filled you in on the joys of Kakadu in previous emails, so we've posted additional photos for those who are interested.
We were gearing up to climb Ubirr in Kakadu when we last wrote. What a magic place it is. This Aboriginal rock art site is of a very high quality. Its easy access along a walking trail ensures that anyone can enjoy the paintings of the Mimi spirits, the rainbow serpent, Mabuyu (who is the main character in a story teaching the consequences of stealing), a painting of a now extinct animal called a Thylacine, which is estimated at more than 4000 years old and much more,
We went back and climbed the rocky outcrop at sunset. It was truly spectacular. We didn't see the renowned sunset, but we watched a pretty formidable storm brewing over Arnhem Land. The ranger actually asked everyone to head down to safer ground, as the lightning strikes came closer to our position.
Of course, you could stay in Kakadu National Park for years and you would still be surprised by the changing landscape. Like everything on our trip, we merely got a taste and we reckon we'll be back!
