I had a reasonable night in my seat on board the Indian Pacific. I only woke a few times. I've been sitting next to a Japanese girl who I've said not much more than "hello" to. Most people were slouched across the two seats they had to themselves but me and the Japanese girl had to sleep bolt upright. I met Adrian, Lorraine, Scroopy and another Aussie, Pete, for breakfast. The food has been ok so far but nothing more and the prices were reasonable. In England they would not reject such a glorious opportunity to rip you off for food. We spent all day crossing the Nullarbor Plain. This is an famous open space in Australia. Just low lying scrub and sand. It's the worlds largest piece of limestone and occupies 77,000 square miles. Crossing the Nullarbor is known as a seminal experience of the Australian Outback and people either drive it themselves or get the train. The longest straight section of railway is here - no bends for 478km! So we spent the day playing cards and gazing out of the window. We stopped for water and fuel at the outpost of Cook. This "town" has a population of 4 and they were nowhere to be seen as we stopped for around an hour to walk around. There are about a dozen buildings that could be houses and a few cars strewn around. It is a bit of a novelty place and I've no idea why the four have chosen here as home. Their groceries are delivered twice a week by the only thing to come through this place - the Indian Pacific!
