Thursday 9am and the phone went. It was the job agency with an offer of two to three weeks work doing general office work with Excel. I asked for a few hours to think about it as I was still trying to find out about the trip up the coast. By 10am I had sort of made my mind up to take the work and called back to take it. By then they'd already farmed it out to someone else so I just asked for something else if it came up. Sure enough they found me something for the next day but it would just be one day at the Drug and Alcohol Office. I said ok and then realised I'd have to get out an about in Perth to find some clothes.
1 pair of shoes, trousers, socks, a shirt and a tie later I felt like I could take a rest. I found a bar in the shopping area and had a beer. In the evening I moved back to Fremantle where I would check in for a week. I can always commute to Perth easily enough from there. I got a bunk in my old dorm at the YHA and settled back into things there.
Friday morning and my new "career" down under nearly started late as I overslept by fifty minutes. I rushed around and got ready and got on the train to Perth at 8.10 only fifty mins before my start. The train takes half an hour but I had another bus to get! I made it on time just and got to work. The Drug and Alcohol Office had some work that was surprisingly relevant to my experience. I was actually pretty motivated and got loads done for them. During the day Nick from the hostel had sent a text and we arranged to go to see a rugby match in the evening.
Western Force vs Wellington Hurricanes is a Super 16 event of Southern Hemisphere Rugby Union. It was a close match and the atmosphere was great. It was pretty cold in the stadium as the wind swirled around I felt it since I was still in my work shirt. Western Force (the Perth team) beat the Kiwis with a last kick of the game try conversion so the place erupted at the end. Back at the hostel I got on-line an applied for a serious job in Melbourne. I had had a taste of working and wanted to push myself a bit more. The agency hadn't arranged any work for me on Monday so I'll probably follow it up then.
Saturday. Today Nick and I got a ferry up to Perth. I've been a few times on the train by now but it was nice to go up the Swan river and see all the nice houses along the way. In Perth I did some shopping around and caught the train back.
