Day 135

Well I woke up a bit late and didn't fancy rushing to the Batu Caves before heading to Melaka so I took my time, enjoying a cooked breakfast with dormitory-mates and left at 1pm.

01 The Christ Church

Melaka is on the West coast of Malaysia and has switched hands a few times as a result of being on a handy shipping route (The Straits of Melaka). I think the Portuguese grabbed it first and lost out in 1750 to the Dutch who then handed Melaka over to us Brits to help stop the French gaining control! Anyway, it's a pleasing little town and I found a spot to stay in Chinatown. The guest house is a bit hippyish and the woman who owns it is a bit scatty but it's nice enough - the Sama Sama Guest house for anyone not put off by such a scrawny description!

02 Town Square's Fountain

I went out in the afternoon and took a few photos of the main sites near the centre. In the evening I met a Korean girl Ran, and an English guy called Gregg. We went out to the night market where I bumped in to the French guy Leo that I'd  shared a dormitory with in KL. The food was spicy - the local dish Laksa is what I went for. The Malaysian guy in front was quick to warn me that it was a bit spicy for Westerners which only encouraged me! We had a fair few beers and watched the night market entertainment including a semi-serious Karaoke contest at one end of the Chinese "Jonker" Street.
