Feeling much better today Neil and I got in our taxi and headed to Ko Samui. Ko Samui is on the other side of Thailand to Ko Lanta so we had to get a boat first to the mainland, then a bus to Surat Thani and then another boat to Ko Samui. Ko Samui was much bigger than I remember and infinitely more developed. On my last visit we flew to the island and our resort was fairly close to the main beach (Chaweng) so I never got a feel for its size. Our car took nearly 2 hours to go round the Ko Samui ring road. More friends from back home were already at Chaweng beach and had found us some accommodation next door. Karen and Jim are over on a two week holiday and I'd always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to be here with them for New Year's Eve. So, even if my travels do seem fairly random at times you'll see that this bit has been timed to perfection! Neil and I walked through Karen and Jim's hotel trying to find them, it was evening and they were on the beach eating at the restaurant. It really was good to see them and we got settled next door at the significantly less luxurious Lucky Mother bungalows. Later that evening we found a bar on the main strip that was showing the football. As we were shown to some seats we were handed the menu and Jim thought we had been left alone and took advantage of the moment by leaning to the side and letting wind with some gusto! He was mortified to turn around and see that the waitress was still stood there in his slipstream! Very funny.
