Today we moved on to Vang Vieng by bus. I had a seat by the window and would say that the five hour journey was probably the best five hour journey I've ever had! The road was ok and not too bumpy like previous Laos trips but the greatest thing about the ride was the scenery. It really was terrific and I soon had my camera and upper body out of the window taking pictures. Everyone else in the minivan was getting jealous of my view so I reluctantly offered to put my camera down and take pictures with theirs. We weaved through tiny villages and I was waving to little kids as they played by the road side. When we arrived in Vang Vieng it really didn't feel like I'd just done a five hour bus ride at all, it was great.
As soon as we all checked in at our guesthouse I disappeared off to the net cafe and got down to some blogging. It takes a significant amount of time to do this but it's enjoyable to do and cool to know that people back home are reading!
Some of the bars and restaurants in Vang Vieng are a bit strange. They all seem to be like sleeper buses that don't go anywhere! By that I mean that they have beds and cushions around the table, and loads of television sets playing comedy repeats continuously. There is a "Friends" bar, a "Simpsons" bar and a "Family Guy" bar. It's a bit lame really so I didn't hang around for long after my burger and fries had gone! More thumbnails ...
