Where I stayed
The train arrived in Yichang at 3.30pm, nearly 14 hours after leaving. I'm certainly getting used to these long journeys and they seem to fly by as long as you've got some music and a good book. We had one cabin-mate who was about 50 who insisted on continuing to speak to us in Chinese despite it being clear we couldn't understand
We're in Yichang to catch a hydrofoil that will take us east along the Yangzi river past the Three Gorges Dam project, then each of the Three Gorges, then dropping us off three hours bus ride from Chongquing. We headed to one hotel as recommended in the Rough Guide I have. We're definitely off the westerners tourists trail and there aren't any youth hostels around
We headed to the Yichang International Hotel (very tall and posh) and used their little travel centre to book the hydrofoil tickets. It's an early start (hydrofoil leaves at 7am) so we're off to find food and beers.
