The mission today was getting my Trans-Mongolian train ticket from the agency it was waiting for me at. That agency is in a suburb south of the river in a non-touristy area. I found it pretty easily and felt good about paying local price (200 pounds) for a ticket that might cost 600 pounds from a UK agency.
I spent the afternoon reading in Gorky Park with its permanent fun fairs and walked up and down a few boulevards, and stumbled on October Sq with its massive statue of Lenin. I bought some provisions for my train journey (coffee, cups, pasta, cereal bars). There will be a restaurant on board but I haven't heard anyone speaking of it highly. Tomorrow I'll be getting on the train to Beijing so I'll try to make notes en route and update my blog when I get there next saturday.
