Well this is new...kind of...

So I left San Juan del Sur after about 6 days...it was the end of my time in Nicaragua and I have to say it's probably my favorite country so far. The people are incredibly generous and friendly and the natural beauty is fantastic. Next on my trip would be Costa Rica.
Ok, so not too much to talk about in San Juan del Sur. I stayed at a small beach called Playa Maderas, about 10km north of the main city. It was an amazing beach spread out over about a mile. There's only 2 or 3 hostels on the beach, so at night you have pretty much the whole coast to yourself. By day I hung out on the beach, where there were quite massive waves compared to anything else I've seen so far. I was told by some people who had lived there for years that the tides were at their highest point ever, which contributed to the massive waves. Unfortunately, these waves also brought in jellyfish, which they almost never see on the beach. The first day I spent swimming I came out of the water with a huge welt across my arm that swelled up for about 4 hours before disappearing completely. Some of the surfers would come out with their face completely swollen from coming up in the middle of a group of jellyfish. It's a pretty big surfing area, but I didn't feel much like learning at the time. At night we'd have fires on the beach or parties at the house some backpackers had rented out for a month. The local rum Flor de Caņa, which wins awards as one of the best rums in the world, is about $8 for a bottle, which is quite dangerous.
