The second part of the journey from San Salvador took a bit longer than expected as our bus parked up just past the Nicaraguan border for a few hours for no apparent reason and the we had to change buses for the rest of the journey to Managua the capital. On arrival in Managua we were met by a helpful taxi driver who told us that the last bus to Granada had already gone. This was at five in the evening and we were a bit sceptical so he took us to a place where there were a few mini buses parked up for the night to prove his point. Clearly this guys wasn´t going to take us to the bus station and wanted to take us to Granada himself (about 1 hour away). Not really feeling like stayinga night in Managua and seriously needing a shower after a hard day on buses we negotiated a price to Granada and set off.
It was dark on arrival but looking around the next day it instantly struck me as a nice place. Any misgivings about dangers in Nicaragua were soon gone. I´m sure there is crime here but if you´re careful and don´t do anything stupid you should be fine.
Beside Granada is lake Nicaragua which is a nice place to hang out and get away from the heat. One other great thing about Granada was that it only seems to rain and night time although when it does rain it really rains absolutely pouring down.
