Antigua is where most of the gringos in Guatemala go and for obvious reasons. Being the old capital itīs full of pretty old streets and buildings. In fairness they could probably do with a lick of paint but itīs a pretty enough place nevertheless.
Apart from checking out the town I also went on a hike up an active volcano called Pacaya. This involved another early start but was well worth it. It was an easy enough hike up and we were able to walk around where the lava was flowing. There wasnīt a huge amount of lave but you could stick a wooden stick in it and it would burst into flames straight away, not a good idea to stick your hand in there! All the ground around the lava was really hot too and you had to be careful that your shoes didnīt melt. Unfortunately we werenīt able to go up to the crater due to poisonous gases which I though was fair enough really.
