The bus journey from San Cristobal to the Guatamelan border was pretty uneventful, the only excitement being at the border where I had to jump into a taxi with three Mexican women who just kept looking at me, speaking in fast Spanish and laughing a lot. I did pick up the word gringo a lot but not a lot else. The actual border crossing was a pice of cake and I was in Guatemala where I next had to find a chicken bus. Chicken buses are the most common form of  transport in Guatemala, basically the are old US school buses that are now used for public transport. Of course the bus companies have souped a lot of them up with a new paint job and plenty of crucifixes and religous pictures, these aren't the most comfortable buses for long journies if the bus is full as they squeeze three into each seat that was originally designed for US kids and NOT 6 foot something Irish men!
My first destination was to be Huehuetenango but I was only staying there one night and I didn't regret that decision when I got there. Although a pleasant enough town there isn't a whole lot to do here, although it was Saturday night there was only one bar open in the centre and only three people in it. I would be getting out early the next day alright.
