The bus journey took about eight hours and we arrievd in to see the sun set over the Golden Gate bridge which was a perfect start to San Francisco. Unfortunately I didnt get a photo from the bus so youll just have to imagine it for yourself.
Arriving into downtown, I was surprised at how many homeless people there were, mostly black too. They all seemed fairly friendly too but I wouldnt like to push that point too far late at night.
When you do finally get to see the Golden Gate Bridge it is as imnpressive as you would imagine. It's also big although the bridge from Oakland to San Francisco is actually bigger just not as famous. Although the bridge is actaully a three lane highway in both directions it's still possible to cross it on foot although it is quite noisey. It's worth it for the views you get of San Francisco from the bridge and the other side.
Being San Francisco of course there had to be a love parade on when I was there, it seemed like little more than advertising for all the local bars and clubs but was still good fun (apart from the naked old guys who were also part of it!)
Alcatraz is only about an half hour from San Francisco by ferry but still no one ever escaped from there due to the freezng cold waters and strong currents. There were some interesting guided tours of the place and the views of SanFrancisco from the cells were second to none. If this wasn't a former prison it would be one piece of prime real estate.
