Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand and also has the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, the sky tower. Apart from that, there's not a whole lot to it really in terms of tourist attractions. It seems like a nice city to live in though with plenty of montains and beaches near by. In spite of what the south Islanders say, it's a friendly enough place although of course like any big city it's going to have it's problems. There seems to be a fair amount of homeless people and drunks around in the centre at night but it doesn't feel dangerous. Having said that I had first hand experience of how different it is here to the South Island when I accidently left my Ipod plugged into a computer in an internet cafe. I realised ten minutes later but when I went back it was already gone. The girl working at the cafe wasn't very sympathetic and I wouldn't be surprised if she had taken it herself. Was my oen fault really but I'm sure that if it had happenned on the South Island it would have still been there or else someone would have handed it in. Oh well, looks like no music for those long bus rides in S America now(.
In spite of this slightly negative experience I still had a good time in Auckland. Although it's not by any means the best that New Zealand has to offer, it is a nice city and a good place to visit for a few days.
