The restful evening did not last for long as we were then hit by an almighty storm. Once again I did the manly thing as the thunder and lightning came crashing down upon the tent
We left the beautiful camping spot behind to follow my carefully planned back route out of the state park. My sneaky shortcut would return us to the main Route 40 in a much more advanced position than if we had to leave via the park entrance which we came in on last night. Unfortunately, 4 miles later we were back at the camp entrance. My shortcut was not where the map said it would be and we had cycled 4 miles of short steep hills with absolutely no gain. Just what you want when faced with a 55 mile day ahead.
It was a testing start, but nothing compared to what the day had in store for us. I cannot explain how exhausting it has been. So much for Sunday being the day of rest. We have spent 8 hours on the bikes and it has felt like we have been cycling uphill for those entire 8 hours. Our fitness was tested to the max and we were on our knees when we approached the campsite (which was of course at the top of another hill). When checking in, Polly was so tired she could not even answer when the lady asked for her name.
I cannot write anymore as my body is about to stop working.
Miles Cycled; 63 and it has nearly finished us
No. of times beeped and sworn at: several times but I was far too exhausted to respond
