We left the church early. It struck me as we left that it was just as well we were not here a day later, otherwise we may have been a strange sight to greet the morning churchgoers.  Satanta had served us well and been another lovely stop through Kansas.

The ride was then a story of conveniently placed towns along the way.  The temperature again reached 105F and we cycled only to find the next gas station and the attached soda machine.  We passed through Montezuma where surely the chocolates would not survive.  A stop at Mikeys Auto repair where we met a big sweaty guy who maintained the 'overly welcoming' nature of Kansas people and refreshed us for the next leg.

The last crawl into Dodge City was longer than we had anticipated and the directions for Watersports RV Park took us around the houses. But we arrived and set up camp to enjoy a very peaceful, if hot, night by the lake.  Advertised as a great swimming spot, the lake was not looking it’s best after years of drought and we opted for cold showers at 10 minute intervals.

Stacey from the campsite drove us to Walmart in the complimentary shuttle bus, where we bought a couple of infant camp chairs which luckily will squeeze our bums in and fit nicely on the back of the bike.  Stacey was expecting her 4th child, finally a girl she told us.  I tried to make a comparison with the Beckham’s but the soccer reference was well and truly lost here in Dodge City.

Another enormous steak for dinner and we were extremely pleased to be finished cycling for a short while. The tent was a sauna and so instead we slept out under the stars, only disturbed by a few curious ants. No mosquitos in the States so far = excellent.

Miles Cycled; 60 and we want a day out of the heat
