There was no chance of us going anywhere today. After a few days where we have ridden 100, 70 and 92miles it was the time to stop.  The bikes needed some serious attention and it felt like our bodies were also in need of patching up.

Albuquerque KOA Kampground may not be in one of the nicest areas of our trip (again it is plonked next to the freeway and in a very dodgy part of town) but it does provide a very friendly and safe site.  It also has a pool and shade so we agreed that it would be good to spend a day here in recovery.  Jeff and Gloria are wonderful hosts, Jeff even showed us his tattoo which he had done himself when he was in the forces as a young man.  He then told us all of his friends were dead, poor old Jeff.

So that is what we did.  We sat around and did some good planning, some good reading and some good swimming. The afternoon came and I could no longer ignore the broken bike out the corner of my eye.  I sweated it out in 100F temperatures to fix 6 punctures whilst Polly took it easy under a tree with iced water and yet another book.  I think she must have read near on 50 books this year.  I am proud to say I also finished a book yesterday, my 5th of the year (that is 5 more than last year).

The front derailleur problem on Pollys bike could no longer be ignored so I set about the task which is clearly out of my mechanical skill set.  Miraculously, an hour later everything was in working order and Polly will no longer have to go up hills with only 5 gears.

The good work deserved a pizza.  We ordered delivery which arrived at camp reception courtesy of Dominos only 20 minutes later.  The evening got even better with a friendly high school principal on holiday with his family lending us two very comfortable camp chairs.  We might be ready to pedal on in the morning to Santa Fe, or we might not.

Miles Cycled: 0, we really need a rest
