Where I stayed
Lake Mead National Park Campground
The ride out was relaxed and there was lots to look at. We didn't stop at the Liberache Museum or the Adult Fun Megastore but I am sure they both served the community well. After 10 miles we were yet again feeling the heat and needed a Maccy-D stop to cool down. We then continued towards Boulder City with a head wind and slight incline which made the going slow.
Boulder City turned out to be a very pleasant place. We restocked on puncture kits at a bike shop (this morning started with a flat tyre in the hotel lobby) and worked out the area by stopping at the excellent Nevada Visitors Centre
Leaving the town we turned a corner to find a stunning view. We had somehow got quite high and the road down to the lake made the last 8 miles effortless. We are in the Hoover Dam area and will ride across it tomorrow. Lake Mead is wonderful, the stark contrast of the blue waters against the dusty rocks of the mountains around is quite a sight.
We cycled straight down to the waters edge and dived in. The campsite is a real winner and we enjoyed one of the best camp meals in memory, a divine chicken Caesar salad.
Off to bed early ready for a 5am rise to tackle 80 more desert miles. The Grand Canyon is 4 or 5 days away, the stops along the way all look ideal with KOA campgrounds and much needed swimming pools. Oh, it all sounds so easy.
Miles Cycled: 33 and probably just as well we didn’t do any more in this heat today
