For most of the day we were rained on so heavily we wanted to bring the flight to sunny LA forward. But then we arrived in Mount Maunganui.

Our body clocks are set to early and it was a quick getaway from Roturoa Holiday Park.  We had cycled all of yesterday in the rain, gone to bed in the rain, and woken up in the rain.  The rain overnight had been heavy and we were sploshing around in a bog as we packed up the tent.

As we cycled out of Roturoa around the lake, there was yet again an overwhelming aroma of rotten eggs.  For once on the trip I had a genuine explanation, "we are in volcanic region, Polly" I offered.

The morning ride was pretty unspectacular.  We banged out a quick 30 miles, the first stop was a lovely break for muesli bars at the tip of Lake Roturoa and the second highlight was tea and biscuits (yep, the Thermos flask is now a regular fixture).

We spent lunch at yet another non-noteworthy North Island spot but consoled ourselves with the fact that we only had 20 miles to go.  Back on the bikes we then hit rain again, serious rain.  It was the heaviest we have experienced for months and as the streams of water poured down from our necks to our socks we decided to just finish the day off.  Cycling is rubbish when it is this bad, wherever you are in the world.

We arrived in Mount Maunganui and things changed.  The sail boats on the water reflected the sun that was now making things look good again.  We found the most beautifully located campsite and put up the tent.  We sorted a hire car without any fuss (for the trip back to Taupo to jump out of a plane) showered, shopped and did supper at ease.

Fingers crossed for the weather tomorrow.  We set of at 7am in the car to drive back to Taupo, if all is well I will be jumping at 10am.

Miles Cycled:  52 pretty much wet all the way miles

Good luck tomorrow with the jumping - are you both doing it? Weather's been pretty rubbishy here too, though we can't compete with that much rain. Had brekker at Highfield where your bunting wias being installed for Elizabeth's big party - Jojo and I tried to concentrate on the crossword -- think 'll blame Elizabeth as we were complete rubbish today and didn't finish half! Did a bit in the garden and am now going to peruse the Saturday Times - not long before LA now - Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi guys - what horrid wet weather! Still you have reached a stunning campsite and I really don't think East Head can compete with that beach. Party's over here - finished at about 5.30 when Olaf decided it was time to awake (I think A woke hime when she went to bed) Someone had done most of the washig up but the place smells like a brewery and anyone who finished more than one 'James Bond Martini' deserves a medal or body transplant! If you had asked them last night they would have gone for the medal but not this morning E thinks. Hope you have landed safely Mikey and it was worth the trip back - I expect that like the girls, you will be given a video of your experience with some frightfull backing music. Sorrry to have missed Polly's skype last night - or was it this morning?
LOL Jojo

I went to bed at 2 - it was the Williams Rd contingent who stayed up til 5.30 and I deserve a medal for getting up at 5.30 and giving Olaf some breakfast!!! xx

By now you should have jumped - looking forward to hearing all about it. It seems it rains even more in NZ than here!
Take care Love Lindy
