Anyway, the sun was shining again and it was a lovely city to walk around (tiny for a capital, more like a small Brighton). First we caught the cable car up the hill for an amazing city scape view and then walked back down through the botanical gardens
Back at the hostel we just had time to wash the foul clothes before Mikey’s sister’s friends came to pick us up and take us to their house for dinner. It’s feels quite strange to meet up with other people’s mates, but we had a brilliant time. Tim and Sam had clearly thought really carefully about what two far-from-home cyclists might want and cooked up a perfect roast chicken and even had homemade Yorkshire puddings!!! They’d visited loads of the places we’ve been on their way out here and unbelievably were in Christchurch when the last earthquake hit. It was great to hear all of their stories and we felt a bit jealous that they get to stay in New Zealand for another year.
After we’d been dropped back at the hostel by our lovely hosts, we climbed the ridiculously steep and dangerous ladder to the bunk bed for the last time and looked forward to a great ride out of the city in the morning.
Miles Cycled: 0, Day off, thank you very much (day off from what?)
