Bikes locked away for a couple of days and hire car picked up we left Queenstown in our very smooth blue Hyundai Getz, well it is a step up anyway from the 600Cc Kancil of Borneo roadtrip. On our way out of town we stopped by a clothing design company to sketch out a couple of t-shirts to wear on the bikes, I'm sure the photos later in the week will be showing them off.

The drive to Te Anau was beautiful. The weather was not ideal and we also had the added uncertainty about the road out to Milford Sound being closed due to snow.  When we got to the Tourist Info office in Te Anau they said we could drive out but we would need to hire snow chains for the car.

The 115km drive out to Milford Sound was spectacular.  The shine was slightly taken off by the rain and mist but it was still possible to appreciate the vastness of this Fjord land wildnerness.  Snow lined the roads and water gushed off the side of cliff faces.

We were pleased to check into the Milford Sound Lodge and treat ourselves to a night in a room.  I did not even try and push the camping idea, it was howling outside and the cosy lounge area inside confirmed that the tent should remain rolled up in the car.

An afternoon wrapped up in the warm lodge watching the rain pound the towering peaks around us was lovely.  It was also great to see photos of the big wedding from Bosham yesterday.  We really felt a long way from home but were so happy to see everybody having such a great day.  I particularly liked the dance floor shots, the usual suspects pulling off some classic moves.  Looking forward to hearing about who let themselves down the most! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Tom Weller – you both looked gorgeous.

Miles cycled: 0 and thank goodness we are in a car because this ride would have been horrific

I'm a bit confused - I thought the Agates were in the opposite direction?

Hi guys!
How is it going? Have you started biking to the westcoast yet?
We are in Makarora right now, taking it slow. We had some bad wind against us the last couple of days but now we see that you had worse weather, good you were in a car!
Hope to see you somewhere on the road:)
