Where I stayed

We'd promised Tommy that today would be solely spent lounging on the beach, and we were true to our word. We all hit the sun loungers after breakfast and stayed there until they wanted to pack them away at 7pm. Tommy ventured out at one point to buy some flip-flops and a very stylish beach bag. Later, Mikey and I tried to get someone to remove the ginger carpet from his face, but no barbers had the correct equipment so it remains in place. We had lunch over the road before taking cornettos back to the beach, and that was it! Lovely. Oh – apart from the point where Mikey got stung by a jelly fish and went back to the room to pee on his arm- Disgusting!

After being kicked off the loungers we headed next door for sunset G and T’s and began to plan the route ahead, we've booked a great looking atmospheric guesthouse for tomorrow night in Penang. That done it was back to the rooms to wash off the sand before setting out to find an eatery which served beers. We found a fantastic place – 'Islandish’, where they had cheap beer on tap and delicious fresh seafood. We chose a massive tiger prawn and a fat little fish and the chef turned them into a feast.

Having wandered round on the streets last night and not found anywhere to have a drink, we headed to the beach this time and immediately came across the Yellow Café - Tables on the sand and more lovely friendly staff. We got the laptop out again intending to work out where we could stay that Tom could get the bus to as well. At that point things took a dramatic turn when he suddenly said "What if I buy a bike and just come with you?"!!!!! We had joked about this, but never thought he would actually do it, but he really is going to!!! We worked out that Mikey and I can take his luggage, he can borrow some of our cycling shorts, buy himself a fabulous sun hat like ours and provided the bike doesn’t cost too much, it will be a fabulous way to get to Kuala Lumpur. We’ve decided to cycle the 220 miles in 3 days so that we’ll have the 15th off in KL before Tom flies home and we head on to Singapore. This means that Tommy’s first cycle touring experience will involve a 60 mile day, then 76 miles and finally a 90 mile blast into a capital city. To keep us going he’s booked us into a 5* hotel in KL where they will hopefully receive three filthy sweaty, smelly exhausted cyclists with open arms on the evening of the 14th! Having made this excellent plan, Tom texted lots of people and told them, so there’s no backing out now.

We spent the rest of the night training for the big trip – this training took place in a Malaysian disco. I was all trained out by 3.30am and headed back, but Tommy and Mikey kept at it until 5, and are in excellent shape this morning, ready for anything a cycle trip can throw at them.

Now it's the Easter holidays I've finally had a chance to catch up on the blog. Amazing reading as always. Hope Tommy is doing OK with the cycling and that you all enjoy Kuala Lumpar. Massive respect to him.

We're good in Brighton. Moved into our new house a couple of weeks ago and loving settling in and the sunshine we've had recently. Did the Brighton marathon on Sunday and got a PB so was well chuffed with that; Jon finished too and the Morrison-Prices did brilliantly. It's Philly gaga party on Saturday and we will miss you both and the crazy costumes you would no doubt have worn! Totally loving the fact that I only have to work about 2 days this month with the holidays and the royal wedding. If teaching was like this all the time I could just about cope! Thinking of you both as ever and sending much love Xxx
