Like any perfect day off, it started with pain au chocolates and coffee in a lovely café in the old town. One pastry was not enough and if they hadn't sold out I think we could have kept going. After breakfast we left Steve to rent a bike and agreed to meet him at the beach. Pols and I then got quite distracted on the walk back to our parked motorbike. The shoe makers looked such good fun we had to have a look. 10 minutes later I was being measured up for the most ridiculous pair of trainers you can imagine. They even agreed to embroider my name on the front and a bicycle on the back. On a roll the shopping continued with some great board shorts for Pols and a much needed cap for my out of control barnet.
The sun was out and we kangarooed along to the beach (the guy had rented me a motorbike with gears which I have not used before) with Polly not very relaxed on the back
Back in Hoi An we enjoyed afternoon cakes in another dream café and continued to stroll the back streets of the charming old town. A nervous visit to Mr Hung Travel Agency (over to George for suggestions on his first name!) produced the goods, our Vietnam visas were now extended and we would not have to dash for the border like we had to in China.
The evening was perfect also. Mojitos were minty fresh, the food was good and I think Steve especially enjoyed his Apple Martini.
That is how a day off should go – great company, great beach, great shopping, great food.
