Waking up to dull grey skies and Dan looking very poorly having been vomiting all night was not the best start to New Years day. He couldn't get out of bed, but at least Dad was feeling well enough to get up. After another enormous Landmark breakfast Mikey and I took the moped and followed M and D in a taxi to the Mountaineering Museum. An enormous place it was packed full of information about mountain dwellers and actual mountains worldwide. The most incredible section showed the amount of waste dumped on Everest which included dead bodies. We lost Dad again but he was waiting by the car having had a great time and met the same gorgeous baby goats on the way out as we had. Mikey adn I are trying to pursuade Mum a goat would be a nice addition to Windward. Dad's keen and I'm sure Newt would love it.
We then hit Devi falls, a waterfall named after a Swiss lady who fell in it and was swept away. Not very spectacular in the dry season actually, but fun. Our taxi driver said there were some excellent caves over the road so we headed over. LUCKILY Mum opted out as it was grim! Dark, damp caves stank of cow poo and the path winding 100m down was packed with people of all ages from very small children to aged grandmas staggering around. No signs showed where to go and on the way back a powercut plunged us into darkness. Sensibly people started screaming their heads off - not cool! We were all very glad to get out when the lights came back on.
Back at the hotel Dan was in a bad way and the trip out had completly exhausted Dad so they stayed in bed while Mum, Mikey and I mooched about shopping, drinking hot chocolate and enjoying the street stalls. As it was too cold to wash my hair without a hairdryer I decided to have my hair cut, which was pretty different. The hair dryer was powered by two car batteries!

By the time we got back to the hotel, Dad had revived enough to come out and have a tea while we had cocktails at Moonshine, and to eat a fair bit of all of our meals at Tea Time Bamboostan Cafe (yes - mad name, but nice place). Neither Mum or Dad felt worried about staying up to see in the new year so we droppped them back at the hotel about 10, where they could keep an eye on poor puking Dan.
New Years is clearly the one day of the year the locals stay up past 10 and the streets were packed. We wandered happily watching the chaos of street stalls and drinking really bad white wine. The actual moment of midnight didnt seem to be important and we missed it as we expected some singing/fireworks to alert us to the hour which didnt happen!
It was great to skype everyone at Charlotte's birthday party as they were getting ready for a long night. They seemed very confused about where on earth we were and why it was cold. (Apart from Olaf that is, who is so intellegent he understands everything instantly) He was showing off standing on his own - very clever.
Happy Happy birthday Char xxxxx
