Waking at 8, I went straight down to call the hotel in Dehli and check that Dan had arrived and was now on his way back into the loving arms of his mummy and daddy. The hotel said that their man had waited at the airport for four hours with a sign and Dan had not turned up - Oh dear. Although Mikey and I were confident Dan would have sorted himself out, we thought it best not to mention this fact to M and D over breakfast and were relived when Dan called at 9.30 to say that he was on a rickety bus and should be with in a couple of hours. He hadn't seen anyone with a sign, so asked around and made friends with a guy who apparently commuted from Dehli to Jaipur daily and together they got a ridiculously rickety bus with loads of other locals. The journey was supposed to take 4 hours, but took 9 due to traffic and Dan's new friend fell asleep with his head on Dan's shoulder for most of it.

While we were waiting for him to arrive, Mikey and I went on a fruitless journey in a rickshaw to a bike shop miles away which turned out to be shut. We had tried to take our friend Rajid's but this time someone had let his tyres down! Dan had arrived when we got back and was remarkably perky despite 20 hours of travelling and no sleep. Like Mum and Dad Dan couldnt stop laughing about things he'd seen on the road on his way. Cows in shops etc... He also absolutely refused to believe that the two men we saw walking past holding hands were not gay. I explained that it was just a sign that they were good friends but he couldn't get his head around it.

Mikey set off to try and find new gear cogs for both our bikes and the Gicks set off sightseeing. The City Palace was pretty good although the free audioguide so long, I cant believe anyone ever listens to all of it. The weapons section was was the best bit, where they had truly horrific daggers, maces and spears, several with pistols attached. We also saw the largest silver objects in the world. (Jars to carry Ganges water to England when a Royal was visting). Getting out we got a rickshaw with the most annoying man in the world who kept taking us to shops we didnt want to go to and talking in a ridiculously fake American accent. We ditched him, did some more shoppping in the Bazaars and got a really aggressive rickshaw driver home. (Dad told him to calm down and stop being so agro with other drivers or we would get out.) Back at home Mikey had had no luck with the parts we needed so hopefully we'll sort that in Delhi.

For supper that evening we wandered down the road to Umaid Bhawan where we had a delicious meal on the rooftop, serenaded by a bog group of other dinners who seemed to be having some kind of Carol concert. So happy we are all together for Christmas.

Hi there guys, love reading all your blogs, it sounds amazing ! We'll miss seeing you both at Christmas but we're sure sure you'll have a fantastic one with all Polly's family in India, it's certainly going to be different anyway and a lot warmer than it is here. Well have a good one and all the very best for the New Year. Happy travelling and lots of love .

Have been reading your blog and am full of admiration for what you've been up against and what you've achieved. Hope you have a more realxing time over the next few days with Polly's folk.
AW and I carried on your legacy of X-Country club last term and expect to restart in 2011. Highlight was the X-countriers running with an 'Olympic Torch' on its Hampshire tour and taking it to its next destination; only Havant college, but the children were really enthusiastic and ran it in relay fashion. They were really quick, despite various road crossings; they're quite a fit group this year.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas; I bet it'll be one you won't forget.
My new year's resolution is to read your blog regularly in 2011.

Hope you have all found suitable rooms at an Inn for Christmas - will miss you all greatly. Not much info on the rest of that train journey - was it just too bad to comment or did you all manage to sleep the last 14 hours? The description of Fratton Park on a saturday was all too graphic Mikie!

I think I have everything under sontrol here - presents wraped, Father Christmas has sorted out the stockings, vegetable prepared, goose stuffed and barbeque laid so what can possibly go wrong? I'll let you know.

It seems skype might let us down tomorrow as they have crashed but we sure will try you at some stage.

Happy Christmas with all our love

Have spent 4 days catching up with the blog when I should have been doing Christmas type things.Hmmmm.... let me see, frantic food shopping and bloomin present wrapping or reading fascinating blog? Blog won with the result that things are predictably disorganised (don't worry C & G, there is a cow in our fridge ready for Tuesday). Loved your visit back to the children and thought of them and you all when we went to the Club to sing my first carols of the year. We had drinks and Olaf cuddling with C & JoJo yesterday which was lovely and so pleased that Elizabeth and George made it back safely. Am missing my bridge partner enormously and was unreasonably thrilled to get a couple of texts. Can't remember your exact plans but know that at some point you're all heading for Nepal where it's good to know that Alan's corduroy's will come in useful! Keep up with the wonderful blogs and merry Christmas you all. Masses of lovexxxxxxx
