Where I stayed
Villages de Meunieres 4* Camping
Managed to get up early for the first time - 8am! Packed quickly and ready to leave at 9.30. Had more pain au raisins in the sun by the canal. The Boulangeries have been great about filling our water bottles as well. Manged to find an amazing route along the canal from Dioux to Dignon, gorgeous views in the autumn sun. Did 15 miles to the town where we went straight to the tourist office and found out about future campsites. Then quickly went on to Paray-le-monial and then Charolles. Feeling tired, but saw some amazing birds of prey (Could they be Peregrine Falcons?) and the towns were all beautiful. At Charolles we had a picnic in the public gardens at the top of the city where we saw an panoramic view of the route ahead - VERY hilly. We decided to take white roads after lunch in an attempt to miss the moterway and what we though would be a 10mile quick blast to the campsite turned into 2 hours of long climbs steep drops only to climb again. By the time we reached Dompierre-les-Omnes which was on top of yet another hill, we had done 55miles but it felt like 75. Luckily the campsite was 4* luxury and even had a pool, which having spent 20 pounds for the night. (normally 10 elsewhere) we thought we must make the most of. A cold swim and hot shower revived us and as it then began chucking it down with rain we decided to eat in the resturant. We ate an enormous pizza each and used the free wifi to do a bit of blogging, while the restaurant played the song 'Last Christmas.'
