We had our first school meeting today, which was very productive but otherwise unnoteworthy. Except that during it Oscar and Henry decided to give themselves haircuts. They took their little blunt preschool scissors and cut big bald spots in their hair. So much for letting it grow. We took them to a coiffure and they skinned them just about bald. Serves them right. Les petit merdes.
. The open-air market is amazing. There are fresh fruits and veggies of every type, all grown locally. David works the bargains like a true New Yorker. The fish market was out of fish! So we bought some lobsters, about $20 for two, and we brought them home and cooked them up. Soooo yummy. Everybody is trying to get you to buy from them, they follow me around "Madam, Madam", showing me what they have. I'm too much of a sucker and I always feel bad because I know that they are poor, so I leave it up to David to haggle.
Also, I'm giving up on the malaria medicine; it's making me crazy. I'm opting for preventative methods instead. We keep the A/C on and the windows and doors closed and we really don't go out at night anyway. The boys and David seem to be tolerating it better than I do, so they will keep with it for the mean time, although our travel health provider in the States told us not to keep on it indefinitely because there are no studies on the effects of long-term use.

African Haircuts
We spent the afternoon at the beach. Little white kids are very rare around here and people are drawn to them and can't keep their eyes off them. Besides, how cute are they? They are also terrified and awed by Lyle. (For those who've asked, we spent not-quite the equivalent of another ticket to get Lyle over here, but then were reimbursed by our company as they considered it a relocation expense) And what Lab doesn't love the beach? He chases sticks and shells and dives into the waves like an Olympian. Also, I'm giving up on the malaria medicine; it's making me crazy. I'm opting for preventative methods instead. Lobsters and stuff
Hello C/P Family!
Love the pictures and stories! African lobsters look exactly like Florida lobsters. Who knew? Lyle looks like he's happy just to be hanging out with you guys. Smooches to AM and David!
To Oscar and Henry:
Good job with trying out new food!! Did you like the lobsters? I love your new haircuts. Should I cut mine like that, too? What do you think? I hope you guys are having fun. I love you and miss you. xxoo
