Our 3 pallets of curriculum finally arrived last night, and a team of us unloaded and verified that all arrived intact. Today was spent cataloguing and pushing it around and getting organized for tomorrow's school association meeting. We're hoping they;ll agree to push back the start of school a week, and we've already arranged with our boss in the states to skip an october conference in uganda in favor of more time to plan.

Meanwhile, the boys have a new zest for life and are able to spend many more minutes out of our way now that a box of blocks and a box of Lego are there's to explore. They entertained a room full of guys at the photo store with their ziplocs of lego pieces while we waited for Ann-Mary's driver's license photos to be developed. Walking through downtown Pointe Noire with Oscar and Henry is never dull -- they elicit the most bemused looks from just about everyone. And my regular walk with them and Lyle and the double stroller to the beach and back has won us a small legion of fans and familiar faces.

The best thing is that they boys are really becoming more comfortable with the rudimentary French we;ve been asking them to use: merci, bon jour, au revoir,..and they've really turned the corner of affection for our sweet secretary, Davina. She deserves it, coming up to our place nearly every day to discuss issues or get the keys (even though she's terrified of Lyle) and always trying to break through the toddler communication barrier. Today we went out to lunch with her and it's clear that she's won the boys over. And, Lyle's starting to work his labrador magic on her, too.
