Started some last minute laundry, met Alice (Dave's sister) for breakfast at the Country Waffle here in Pittsburg at 8:00am and put gas in the car. Came back home put clean sheets on our bed and put the last load of laundry in the dryer. Ran to Costco to pick up fabric softener and plastic ware for Alyssa. After folding that last load of laundry we finally left Pittsburg @ 1:09pm (Car mileage at 4,016) (Only an hour later then our planned departure time) stopped in Brentwood for a fruitzee from Editable Arrangements, it was on our way out of the area. We arrived in Modesto at 3:15p.m. The traffic was extremely heavy for mid-day travel.

When we checked in the agent at the front desk upgraded us to queen suite. Very nice room sure beats Motel 6. We were told that the Modesto area is where native son and filmmaker, George Lucas grew up and the movie "American Graffiti" recalls the times he spent cruising the streets of his hometown in the early 1960's.
While on our drive it was great to see farm lands being worked again. Lots of corn, grapevines and other plants we couldn't identify. We also saw a lot of happy Calif. cows enjoying the warm weather. Also saw some happy horses too... at least one happy Stud horse out in his pasture with his lady!
After we got settled into our room we ran over to the local Long John Silver picked up dinner which we brought back to our suite to eat. Afterwards we settled down for the evening. We will review the travel books for this area and attempt a little sightseeing here before we get dressed for the Wedding tomorrow.
It has been a long day, but we finally started our vacation!!!!
God Bless all the folks we passed on the road today. Hope anyone else who may be starting their vacations will be traveling with God as their point man too. And he will guide them through a safe journey till they return home.
