It's Saturday evening and the day is coming to a close. Today was an interesting experience. Mark was to pick us up at 11:30 am for church this morning. Because neither Aaron nor I have an alarm clock, we ended up sleeping until about 11:15am. We scrambled to get ready. Luckily Mark was 30 minutes late to pick us up.
Church was held at the local clinic. Everyone was there waiting for us because church was supposed to begin at noon. Church began immediately. There we about 25 men, women, and children that piled into the lobby of the clinic.
The service began with the singing of hymns. The singing was very loud and spirited. One of the members then got up and explained the sermon that was to be viewed on DVD. The explanation was required because the sermon was given in English and the English comprehension ability of some of the people was poor.
The video was then played. The sermon was about tithing and was given by Britton Taylor. The service concluded with a final hymn and a prayer. We then spoke with the locals. They were extremely excited and honored that two American students traveled across the world to be with them. One gentlemen we met (his name alludes me) was the operator of another clinic funded by LifeNets 80 km away from Lilongwe. He wished us to visit his clinic before we left the country. We will try to visit during this clinic during the last week of June.
Upon leaving services we went immediately to Mark's work club for a meal. This was the same place we went to dinner the other night. I'm gathering that Mark spends most of his free time here. Following the meal we came back to the hotel and slept for a few hours.
After a nap we went to one of the local clubs with Mark. All of the locals were shocked to see two Americans dancing with everyone. A few people from Canada and Germany were there as well. It was fun talking with other foreigners. I got to hear several other impressions of the country. The night quickly turned into the morning and sleep was calling. We returned to the hotel and crashed in preparation for the journey to Balaka the next day. The journey is still unfolding. More to come
