Well;we arrived in the real southwest today! Taos is a very attractive artsy community north of SanteFe,New Mexico. We got of I-25 at Walsenburg,Colorado and headed west on Hwy 160. This gave us our first trip into the mountains and we went through LaVeta pass which is at 9413 elevation. The ride was fun and weather was warm until we reached Ft Garland. We got gas and paid $3.09 our first gas over $3.00 per gallon. We put on our leathers and headed south on Higway 159 for Taos. We had some brief showers and had to put our rain gear on just north of Taos which was a real test of getting the gear on while parked along the road with 20 MPH winds blowing. We would not make it as a Nascar pit crew! We finished and the rain was pretty well over for the moment.

Dinner tonight was you guess it Mexican. Had to make a trip to Walmart to get some super glue to repair a plastic part on the helmet speaker connection for our XM radio. XM is a real treat in this part of the world. I was listening to CNBC market reports while watching the antelope. the market news was not good the last couple of days but scenery made up for down market.

We plan to spend some time in Taos tomorrow looking at the local shops. The ability to carry art work home on a bike lifts your purchases. Well Penny reminded me that they have UPS. Wishwe luck!
