When we checked into the Hotel in the early afternoon, we talked to the desk clerk about our plans to have dinner at the Rendezvous for ribs
. She reminded us that the Rendezvous is closed on Sunday and Monday evenings. We were WAY BUMMED. When we got back from our ride to Missouri, I asked Barb to call the restaurant just to be sure they were closed. When she did, they answered and to our delight, they were open tonight as a special event because the Memphis State Tigers were playing Ole Miss. Barb and I don't give much of a hoot about college football but we're fan's of this game for sure! We headed downtown for our feast of baby backs and then walked off some of the calories down on Beale Street. It was a very busy night since it's Labor Day weekend. The music was pouring from all the clubs and street performers. Our timing could not have been better. Even the parking garage was giving a pass on the normal $12 to park downtown. AWESOME.
We hit a biggie milestone today and the bikes turned over the first 10,000 miles on the trip. We actually pulled over and took a picture when the Harley odometer (the one we've been using to track the trip mileage each day) hit 53083. We still had a few miles yet to Memphis and then took our little side-trip to the boot-heel of Missouri. All totaled, we rode 575 miles today and a big 10342 since the ride began.
What a great day this was. We rode up to Memphis from the New Orleans area and had nice cool breezes for most of the ride. If you've ever been in the South in late summer, this was a very unexpected treat. We did hit one short rain shower that caused us to stop and put on rain gear but it only lasted a couple of minutes and we were back on dry roads. We found a great brand new Comfort Suites here in West Memphis, AR that had just opened and got a beautiful room for a GREAT price. After we checked in, we put our gear and luggage in the room and hit the road for a short 150 mile round trip into Missouri. This added two more states to our goal of hitting all 48 on the trip. We did hit quite a bit of rain on the ride to Missouri but it was a fun ride and we were ready for the rain.
